This unique woven shawl is entirely made of hand spun art yarns especially created for this project. It started with the inspirational sight of a glowing giant moon on my way back to my studio. It is see trough a little bit and the weave is quite steady. I took a lot of care into creating a very special fringe, and added a crocheted border which is making it outstanding. It is mainly merino, with tencel and firestar. It is soft and warm. It weight 1.6 pound. 90” wide X 36” in the middle back. A safety pin is provided to hold the shawl in many ways as pictured. Model is 5’1”.
HOW MANY SKEINS?
1 skeins: mittens wrists, accents in a hat, or in weaving, needle and wet felting
2 skeins: beanie hat, texture in a knitted scarf, cowl, neck warmer
3 skeins: short knitted or woven scarf (loose)
4 skeins: long woven scarf (woven loose), knitted scarf, small woven triangular shawl, knitted shawl
5 skeins: medium woven triangular scarf, medium woven triangular shawl
6-9 skeins: medium large triangular woven shawl, knitted shawl
9 skeins and up: small medium sweater
TIPS
Alternate rows of heavy textured art yarns with single or smoother yarns, it will keep the work lighter and showcase the texture contrasts
NEEDLES
I use Prym circular needles, because they have a special tip shape helping pick up stitches of art yarns. I also use Prym ergonomic hooks, they are amazing.
