This tutorial will show you how to make a small top hat with a define brim and top without the use of a hat block. My approach to felting hats is to keep it accessible to the hobbyist. This tutorial is great for felt beginners and intermediate. It is more difficult than a beret due to the multiple manipulations to create the shape. It is a good starter if you want to pursue creating hats. I have included a short clip at the end showing how I needle felted a flower. I couldn’t find the original clip for the needle felting of this particular hat so I used one I made for a hood, its the same.
The video IS BILINGUAL english and french, I switch language in the video. It does not matter because while I talk in another language you can still watch me doing the work. . There is NO captions.
The tutorial IS divided in 13 short clips like my others tutorials. The total length of videos is about 1h40.

HOW MANY SKEINS?
1 skeins: mittens wrists, accents in a hat, or in weaving, needle and wet felting
2 skeins: beanie hat, texture in a knitted scarf, cowl, neck warmer
3 skeins: short knitted or woven scarf (loose)
4 skeins: long woven scarf (woven loose), knitted scarf, small woven triangular shawl, knitted shawl
5 skeins: medium woven triangular scarf, medium woven triangular shawl
6-9 skeins: medium large triangular woven shawl, knitted shawl
9 skeins and up: small medium sweater
TIPS
Alternate rows of heavy textured art yarns with single or smoother yarns, it will keep the work lighter and showcase the texture contrasts
NEEDLES
I use Prym circular needles, because they have a special tip shape helping pick up stitches of art yarns. I also use Prym ergonomic hooks, they are amazing.
