Sometimes I feel for doing small piece like this cowl. It feels cozy outside as well as inside. Super soft made of hand spun alpaca coming from a local farm. For instance, this was knitted using 1 skein of art yarn labelled as “for crochet “, and mixed with a bulky single of alpaca, knitted in short rows. The lace is crocheted.
Every single item I create is made with the yarn I spun. To make yarn, I use wool or alpaca fleece. I clean the fibre, wash, card, dye, and finally spin it, wrap the skein, wash again, hang to dry, wrap it in a ball of yarn then its ready to be knit, crocheted, weaved or felt. Then I wash the garment again, and let it dry with lavender. All made here in Quebec. Thank you for supporting the traditions of textiles arts.Joyce
HOW MANY SKEINS?
1 skeins: mittens wrists, accents in a hat, or in weaving, needle and wet felting
2 skeins: beanie hat, texture in a knitted scarf, cowl, neck warmer
3 skeins: short knitted or woven scarf (loose)
4 skeins: long woven scarf (woven loose), knitted scarf, small woven triangular shawl, knitted shawl
5 skeins: medium woven triangular scarf, medium woven triangular shawl
6-9 skeins: medium large triangular woven shawl, knitted shawl
9 skeins and up: small medium sweater
TIPS
Alternate rows of heavy textured art yarns with single or smoother yarns, it will keep the work lighter and showcase the texture contrasts
NEEDLES
I use Prym circular needles, because they have a special tip shape helping pick up stitches of art yarns. I also use Prym ergonomic hooks, they are amazing.
