A shawl version of my most loved scarf. Its 80” X 34” and took more than 1 pound hand spun yarn. Soft merino, various sheep breeds. This one is medium thickness /density.
All made from scratch, I dye my fibre and card my batts and spin my yarn. I also made the triangle loom. No commercially dyed roving in my studio.
Large safety pin included to attach the shawl.
As reference, the lightest shawl of the same size was 10 onces and the heaviest was 1 pound 1/2.

HOW MANY SKEINS?
1 skeins: mittens wrists, accents in a hat, or in weaving, needle and wet felting
2 skeins: beanie hat, texture in a knitted scarf, cowl, neck warmer
3 skeins: short knitted or woven scarf (loose)
4 skeins: long woven scarf (woven loose), knitted scarf, small woven triangular shawl, knitted shawl
5 skeins: medium woven triangular scarf, medium woven triangular shawl
6-9 skeins: medium large triangular woven shawl, knitted shawl
9 skeins and up: small medium sweater
TIPS
Alternate rows of heavy textured art yarns with single or smoother yarns, it will keep the work lighter and showcase the texture contrasts
NEEDLES
I use Prym circular needles, because they have a special tip shape helping pick up stitches of art yarns. I also use Prym ergonomic hooks, they are amazing.

Mainly I use merino 22 micron and sometimes BFL 23-25. And lots of other fibres like tencel, silk, curly locks and mohair.
