The Ashford dyes are very easy to use and the colours are clear and bright. They are weak acid dyes so white vinegar can be used to fix the dyes making them suitable for the home dyer. The dyes are for wool, silk and other animal (protein) fibres and are fully concentrated with only 10gm (⅓oz) dyeing 1kg (2.2lbs) of fibre or yarns.
There are 12 colours that have been carefully selected for compatibility and when mixed will produce a wide range of hues.
This is the first set of dyes I bought and I still work with it in combination with another brand. Don’t trust the very small jar...these dyes are very powerful. I use a tooth pick to pickup the smallest quantity I could. And their absorption power is amazing.

HOW MANY SKEINS?
1 skeins: mittens wrists, accents in a hat, or in weaving, needle and wet felting
2 skeins: beanie hat, texture in a knitted scarf, cowl, neck warmer
3 skeins: short knitted or woven scarf (loose)
4 skeins: long woven scarf (woven loose), knitted scarf, small woven triangular shawl, knitted shawl
5 skeins: medium woven triangular scarf, medium woven triangular shawl
6-9 skeins: medium large triangular woven shawl, knitted shawl
9 skeins and up: small medium sweater
TIPS
Alternate rows of heavy textured art yarns with single or smoother yarns, it will keep the work lighter and showcase the texture contrasts
NEEDLES
I use Prym circular needles, because they have a special tip shape helping pick up stitches of art yarns. I also use Prym ergonomic hooks, they are amazing.
